VNA of Care New England Foundation

Each year the experienced and dedicated staff of the VNA of Care New England visit nearly 8,000 patients in their homes across Rhode Island. Our nurses, rehabilitation therapists, social workers, and home health aides care for those who are recovering from surgery, have ongoing medical needs, are hoping to maintain their independence, and for those who are experiencing their final days.

The VNA of Care New England is a nonprofit organization, and we count on gifts from grateful patients, families, friends, and the community to provide these much needed services. Every dollar we receive directly supports patient care. Your generosity ensures that we can continue to care for you, your family, your friends, and your neighbors in the comfort and safety of home, regardless of ability to pay. Your donation may be made in honor of or in memory of a loved one, friend, colleague, or special caregiver. It is a wonderful way to recognize this special person and to guarantee that our services will be available to other people in our community when and where they need them.

Hospice Volunteers

Are you interested in providing companionship and support to patients and their families who are facing end of life? Hospice volunteers provide a valuable resource by simply being a listener, sharing a cup of coffee, hearing a patient's story, playing cards, lending a helping hand, reading a book aloud, or just sitting quietly to provide companionship. Hospice volunteers may be specially trained to connect with patients and families in their homes or they might support the program from the office in Warwick. If you are interested in learning more about serving as a Hospice volunteer at Hospice Care of VNA of Care New England, please contact Barbara Fletcher at bfletcher@VNACareNewEngland.org or (401) 737-6050.

One Mans Act of Kindness

boisvert_robertRobert E. Boisvert of West Warwick, a truck driver for many years, chose to remember the VNA in his will when he passed away at age 95 last year.

Robert and his beloved sister Doris Boisvert lived together her whole life. Doris, who passed away in 1996, had been a patient at Kent Hospital when she battled cancer. She received visiting nurse care throughout her treatment, only admitting to Kent at the very end.

“My uncle Bob was just so impressed with the care she received,” recalls the Boisverts’ niece, Gail Shea of Chepachet. “It was his way of saying ‘thank you’ for taking such good care of his sister.

“I agree with him: The VNA never lets you down.

“I've seen it with my own eyes. My father, my mother, and my uncles were all lucky to be in their care,” Shea says. “When I couldn't be there to fill the weekly medicine boxes, change a bandage, or even give a sponge bath, I was confident that they would keep their scheduled appointment and give excellent care.”

Thanks to the kindness of “Uncle Bob,” as he was known, many patients and families in our region will benefit from the services of the VNA’s caregivers in both our Hospice program and our home health services.
