Each year, more than one third of adults 65 and older, fall. Injuries that occur in a fall can result in a loss of independence, limitations in mobility and in some cases, death. In fact, according to Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), falls are the leading cause of unintentional death for individuals age 65 and older. “This is a great opportunity for us to share our expertise with the public and to help increase fall prevention awareness”, says Jennifer Lee, MSPT, and Rehabilitation Manager for the VNA of Care New England. Education can have a positive impact on safety. Helping people to understand what contributes to falls and more importantly what can be done to help prevent them is the purpose of these screenings.
